What's Blooming Now - Amazone Rose 09/13/10

Amazone rose was introduced in 1872. It looks like a creamy white rose in these pictures, but it is thought to be more of a soft yellow. The yellow hues are more pronounced in the spring and fall flushes. In the heat of the summer they appear to be almost white. New foliage growth is red which is typical of the tea roses.

My Amazone shrub rose made quite a lovely photographic subject this weekend, but beware if you want to grow this rose in the south. It is more often a frustration than a charmer. The flowers tend to ball in humid weather. And in the truly hot summer days the flowers turn brown quickly. But sometimes - sometimes - it's perfect.
