Blue Caerulian Passion Vine April 13, 2013

This is the larval food plant for the Gulf Fritillary and the longwing butterflies such as the zebra longwing.  There are so many gorgeous varieties of passion vines, each one is spectacular.  Some of them can be pretty cold sensitive, though, so you have to be careful about choosing.  Two varieties of red flowering passion vines have not over wintered successfully for me - one of them was Lady Margaret, and the other one was an unnamed one.  Blue Cerulean stayed green through the winter, so this is a good one for zone 8b.  I planted it this last fall, so it is not well established and yet it survived very nicely.
