I noticed hundreds of these little grasshoppers on the leaves of a daylily. A female grasshopper lays 10 to 300 eggs in a pod - separate eggs which she then sprays a sticky substance on to protect them. These little guys just emerged, they were very tiny. A grasshopper lives for about 12 months. They spend most of that time molting as they get larger. Then they spend about a month growing wings. Then the females spend a couple months laying eggs, then they die.
