Insects on My Almond Verbena July 14, 2013

My almond verbena was is in full bloom this weekend. The smell was heavenly. I think almond verbenas have the best smelling flowers of any I have ever smelled. The insects were all over my little tree this weekend. I stood next to it, smelled the flowers, and took pictures of insects.
There were many dozens of this little fellow all over the flowers. If they live communally I imagine their home would be pretty formidable looking if you stumbled upon it in the woods somewhere.
Above, this Althea bud was covered with ants or ant-like insects.
