Uses for Rosemary Beyond Cooking

Upright Rosemary

Rosemary can be used as an antiseptic. Used in a compress, it can relieve headaches. Rosemary, taken as a tea, is said to improve memory, and it is considered one of the longevity herbs. A long stem of Rosemary can be put in the bath to make the water smell lovely. It is also used in hair rinses. A cup of boiling water poured over a heaping teaspoon of Rosemary then mixed into a mild shampoo (such as a baby shampoo) makes a wonderfully scented shampoo. For a hair dye, pour two cups of boiling water over two tea bags and steep for 15 minutes. Remove the tea bags and squeeze out the excess water. Reheat the tea-water and pour it over two tablespoons of Rosemary and a half cup of Sage leaves. Pour it through the hair.
