A Weekend at the Farm March 16 - 17 2012

Spent the weekend getting ready for our party next weekend.
  • Cleaned the house! Ceiling fans, ovens, walls, bathrooms, bedrooms, floors, rugs.
  • Washed all the wine glasses I bought for the party.
  • Dug out two beds that I built last year, added some leaf mulch and planted some hostas that arrived in the mail last week from Roots and Rhizomes - three Brother Stefans, three Fire Islands, and six Blue Mammoths.
  • Planted 3 Strawberry Candy Day Lilies, also from Roots and Rhizomes.
  • I'm losing more Dianthus to the voles in the middle bed of the Star Garden. Watered in some poison in hopes that they'll go away.
  • The blackberry vines are loaded with buds. The roses are loaded with buds. The poppies are loaded with buds. The Spanish Bluebells are blooming. The forsythia is about to bloom. The California poppies are blooming. The gingers are emerging from dormancy. Everything should be at the peak of spring next weekend for the party.
  • Dug up columbine seedlings growing in the paths of the Shade Garden and transplanted them to various flower beds.
  • Dug up several blackberry seedlings growing in the flowerbed and transplanted them to empty beds in the Orchard, and I planted one at the edge of the woods.
  • Moved the lemon tree and the tangerine tree from the greenhouse down to the Orchard.
  • Sprayed fungicide on the roses and the hollyhocks.
  • Sprayed herbicide in the Rose Garden.
