Amaranth's Beautiful Seed Heads September 1, 2020

I love amaranth.  Depending on the variety, the foliage can be really beautiful.  And the seed heads are spectacular.  This particular red variety below that I am growing came from Johnny's Seeds web site.  It is taller that I like.  Next year I will go to Bakers Heirlooms for my seeds.  Bakers has some wonderful varieties.  I had to circle these with a wire fence to keep it from falling over.  I sow my seed after all my spring vegetables have been cleared out - tomatoes, etc.  If I sow it too early the bugs attack it, and it gets full of holes.  It will do fine in hot weather.

This plant came back from seed that dropped on the ground last year.  I didn't sow it.
